0 Miss Vietnam Global 2010 finals scheduled in August

The Miss Vietnam Global 2010 organizing board on April 19 officially launched the pageant at a press conference in Hanoi.
Miss Vietnam Global 2007 Ngo Phuong Lan.

Contestants can register from April 25 to May 20. The short-list and semi-final rounds in Vietnam will take place from May 20 to June 5 in five provinces and cities: Tuyen Quang, Ha Noi, Hue, HCM City and Can Tho.

The overseas short-list and semi-final rounds will be held in four countries: the US for contestants from America, the UK for those in Europe, Russia for girls from the Commonwealth of Independent States and South Korea for girls from Asia.

The finals will run from August 10 to 21 at Vinpearl Land Resort in Nha Trang, with 40 competitors. The winner will get the highest prize for a pageant in Vietnam so far – 500 million dong ($26,500).

Meanwhile, the Miss Vietnam 2010 pageant will take place in Ha Long City from June 15 to August 15, leading to worries about the “scarcity” of competitors and lack of public interest. Le Xuan Than, Vice-Chair of Khanh Hoa province and a member of the organizing board, is not concerned because Miss Vietnam Global is an international event, so contestants will arrive from many countries.

The board also introduced clear and strict regulations about the age and qualifications of contestants to avoid any scandals that may arise after the competition.

Besides honoring the beauty of Vietnamese women, this pageant is a special event to celebrate the millennial anniversary of Hanoi. The interview round will focus on questions about Thang Long – Hanoi.

After the finals in August, Khanh Hoa will organize events to celebrate Hanoi’s great anniversary with the winners of Miss Vietnam Global 2010.

0 UK Ambassador invites Miss Vietnam to write blog

Miss Vietnam 2004 Nguyen Thi Huyen has been invited to write about her time in the UK on the Vietnamese blog of UK Ambassador in Vietnam, Mark Kent.

Miss Vietnam 2004 Nguyen Thi Huyen.

Huyen studied at Essex University in the UK several years ago. “The UK has contributed to my happiness today,” Huyen remarked.

“The Essex University in Colchester is very beautiful and it is equipped very well. Lecturers are wonderful because they are very enthusiastic and close to students,” she wrote on the blog.

Graduating from Essex, Huyen studied television media in Middlesex. She was “impressed by lecturers at Middlesex” and the warm sentiment of lecturers contributed to her close attachment to the UK.

According to Ambassador Mark Kent, Miss Vietnam Nguyen Thi Huyen, supermodel Nguyen Vu Ha Anh, writer-composer Tran Le Quynh and Chairman of the Vietnamese Students’ Association in the UK Nguyen Minh Triet are enthusiastic, eager for learning and have broad visions.

These are guests on the Vietnamese blog of Ambassador Mark Kent at blogs.fco.gov.uk/roller/kent.
